amaretti biscuits
A small crisp Italian biscuit typically flavored with almonds
Made from either ground almonds or almond paste, along with sugar and egg whites, the biscuits vary in form and flavour from region to region and household to household. Traditionally they are served with dessert wines, liqueur or coffee, but are also a delicious addition or ingredient in many desserts.
They are not to be confused with Amaretto - a sweet, almond flavoured Italian liqueur associated with Saronno, Italy and made from apricot pits, almonds or both.
These baked peaches stuffed with Amaretti dry biscuits and cocoa are a typical Piedmontese delicacy perfect as snack or dessert.
