Ingredients vary, but most include vinegar, tomato paste, or mayonnaise (or a combination) as a base, as well as liquid smoke, onion powder, spices such as mustard and black pepper, and sweeteners such as sugar or molasses.
These pulled pork sandwiches are remarkably easy to make - they take a while, but most of it is hands-off time. I like to make them in the summer, but they’re good all year round.

Some of the best BBQ I've ever had was a hole in the wall in Tennessee. I traveled for work back then and got so sick of hotel food. I ventured out and found a place. I can't remember the name of it though. I've never been able to duplicate their sauce but I won't stop trying. ;-)
