A Yard of Flannel (Hot Cocktail)
Makes 4 drinks (I made a half-batch)
Ingredients
1 quart dark ale (I used a vanilla porter)
4 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup rum
1 tsp mace (or an equal amount of grated nutmeg)
Directions
Pour the beer into a medium saucepan and set it over medium-high heat. Heat until the beer is hot and steaming, but do not let it boil.
Meanwhile, whisk together the remaining ingredients in a medium bowl. Once the beer is hot, slowly stream it into the egg mixture (too fast and you’ll scramble the eggs), whisking constantly. Serve in warmed mugs.
