Recipe Christmas Pickle/Chutney

Ingredients:
250 gms sharp green apples
250 gms pears
90 gms stoned dates
75 gms raisins
90 gms onion
12 gms fresh ginger, grated
2 cloves garlic, minced
350 gms brown sugar
200 mls wine vinegar
75 mls water
1 tsp coriander powder
¼ tsp each cayenne, cinnamon and cloves
1 tsp salt

Method:
  • Peel and core the apples and pears, then dice.
  • Chop the dates and blend in a food processor together with the raisins, onion, ginger, garlic and vinegar
  • Put all the ingredients in large pan and bring to a boil. Lower the temperature to medium and cook for about 20-30 minutes, until the mixture thickens.
  • Makes around 5 - 6 200cc jars.

Nice! Not just for Chrismas though. Do you think the pears add much to the taste? Pears have quite a subtle flavour so I wondered if they might get eclipsed by the other ingredients.

Well I've got 10 jars of the stuff, so as soon as I've let it mellow a while, I'll let you know.
Like I mentioned before, it's been 10 years since I last made it and my taste memory doesn't go back that far.
