Why coffee could be good for your health

I just wonder as there is no talk about milk toning things down.
Or fillered vs non-filtered...

Anyway, I drink about 2 cups a day (and eat turmeric and chili's, so I should life forever. If only I could find somewhere that says beer is good for me :) )

Remember this: beer has good food value but food has no beer value.

Coffee just has to be good for you. Over 1 billion people in the world drink it every day. Turmeric is considered a wonder-product; antioxidant, anti inflammatory, digestive aid. Chiles are rich in Vitamin C (dried chiles, in vitamin A) and stimulate endorphins. Beer is life - the rest is just details.
So yes, you will live forever - but I'll be there too :laugh: :laugh:

The problem with coffee is that it is highly addictive due to the caffeine and people who drink many cups of strong a day can suffer side effects. They can also suffer quite severe withdrawal symptoms if they try to stop. I'm not a coffee fan at all. I don't particularly like the taste and it has been known to give me a racing heart.
 
My OH gets the shakes from time to time with coffee and has to be careful now. Typically we obit have 2 cups a day at home. I know my OH will have more. He's on his 3rd now whilst out. I've only had the one that was a quarter strength mug.

I think coffee drinking is habitual but not habit forming. Those who claim to suffer withdrawal from it don't understand withdrawal. Withdrawal is much more than just missing something. In 1988 I quit smoking from a 30 year habit. That involves withdrawal and a rather mild one compared to opioids or alcoholism. Nevertheless the first two weeks were pretty uncomfortable. I knew I was in withdrawal from an addiction.

I take a drug every day that prevents me from having anxiety attacks. If I stop it for a week the attacks return. It isn't that it is addictive. It is just that the symptoms it engages return without it so I'm stuck with taking the drug. I certainly miss it but there is no withdrawal. None of these things occur with coffee. Caffeine is a stimulant but not an addictive one like amphetamines. I once ate a healthy handful of chocolate covered coffee beans and got pretty wired from it so one shouldn't overindulge. Lift your cup and enjoy. Have another one later in the day. Incidentally tea has caffeine as well just not as much as coffee.

Some people respond differently to different stimulants. Caffeine is addictive to some and I've met some who needed it every hour else were as cranky as hell. Others just enjoy it.

I've been on morphine for 8 years for chronic pain. Curiously though I'm not addicted to it despite having been on large quantities are certain times. I don't go through any kind of withdrawal or needing to have it just nevertheless it was x many hours since the last dose. I can and frequently do miss doses or as currently I've not had any for 3 days. I haven't needed it for he pain. I know I'm one of the lucky ones in that aspect and have actually spoken to my chronic pain specialist about changing my meds (but it's difficult with my allergies and not being able to take NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).

The point I'm failing to make, is that Just because I don't find morphine addictive doesn't mean it isn't addictive for others.

The same is true for caffeine and alcohol.
