I'm on the side of corn: tortillas, and especially nachos. Potatoes are great, but not generally my preference unless they come with a great dip or seasoning...although corn tends to make my stomach acids act up whereas potatoes do that much less, especially the slightly healthier alternative that brands such as Lay's provide where they're baked instead of deep-fried.

Oh, and I went with crisps in the title because I think it sounds more appetizing. "Potato chips" means something different on either side of the pond, and they sound like leftovers anyway, but "crisps" actually sound culinary!

So, which do you like? Got any favorite sauces to go with them, or is a bit of salt enough?

Both have their moments. I love some nachos with salsa but if I'd have to choose one then I'd go with potato crisps since there are so many different options to choose from. I eat both regularly, though usually I go with the potatoe ones.

I very rarely eat potato crisps/chips, but i do occasionally eat corn ones with dips. I prefer lightly salted ones if I eat plain corn chips and I like them with an avocado dip or a salsa. Cheesy corn chips are especially nice with salsa or with any tomato based dip.

Perhaps I'm strange, but I like eating corn tortilla chips plain. Sometimes I'll have salsa, but I don't need it. I like that they're thicker and crunchier than potato chips.

I will go on either side with this one. I like my potato chips and sour cream dips but I also like my corn chips with spinach dip.

I guess its a what your in the mood for type of thing.

Since this topic has expanded (and it is allowed to! I, topic starter, have decreed it!) I'll also throw in some banana or apple chips as a sweet option. Cassava chips...are eh, to me, a little too stiff. I'm intrigued by potato crisps covered with chocolate, though.

I have recently found some chickpea crisps

Chickpea crisps?! GET IN MY BELLY.

@Ellyn yep - its a UK company that specialise in gluten free & dairy free stuff... they also do lentil crisps as well.
creamy dill was really nice... (I have really big issues with getting dairy free crisps etc, because manufacturers even put dairy in to salt & vinegar crisps!)

For me its either a really good corn tortilla chip or I get chips that have sweet potatoes in them. I also like bagel chips a lot.

Chili and lemon flavored? Oh I am most intrigued! I wish I could find something like this is in the stores here.

I generally prefer corn chips over potato chips for a variety of reasons. I like the flavor better - the salty sweet contrast of the corn kernels to the salt. I also prefer the texture - corn chips hold up much better to dips, they are sturdier, and as they get old they hold up a little better than potato chips. Also, potato chips tend to become too mushy in my mouth and get all stuck up between my teeth.

I have made kale chips and they are fantastic and really easy to make. What is best about them is that they go well with almost any kind of dip.

I really love both corn chips and potato chips. They both have their place. I love blue corn chips especially. I love the clear clean crisp taste of blue corn. I love them as nacho's and for 'taco's, as I don't always have taco shells in but I almost always have some kind of corn tortilla chip around.

I also love to make my own Kale chips. I love the packaged veggie chips also. Recently I found some kettle style chips (my fave of the potato chip variety) that were fried in olive oil. YUM!

I prefer potato chips a lot more than nachos, because I like the smooth texture of potato rather than grainy corn. Both are still okay for me, though, but thin cut plain potato chips with french onion dip is heaven to me. I'd only consider them equal if the nachos are topped with all my favorite toppings.

It depends on what kind of sauce that I will be dipping them into more than anything. I won't eat corn chips with salsa - just can't do it. I will only eat dips with the chips although I use the sweet potato chips now instead of the potato based ones.
