Dishes that are named for an "original", but aren't even close.

On another forum someone made "jambalaya" using salmon, brown rice and oats!:headshake:None of which are part of the original Cajun/Creole jambalaya. Another one that kills me is people calling something made in a crock pot "pulled pork"! No smoker, no pulled pork.:headshake:
 
Kalua pork in a crock pot. Originally in a pit with hot lava rocks, wrapped in banana leaves.

That 'Jambalaya' sounds quite horrible whatever its called! :laugh: It irritates me too up to a point. But there's no doubt that a lot of dishes have 'mutated' over the years. For example 'Bisque' (see What constitutes a bisque to you?).
 
Hangi, I do a poor mans version in a drum, tastes pretty good, but original calls for a pit with heated stones by burning them then food added and sealed with sacks then earth.

Also my local does a Reuben, it's nothing like the ones in the states. Nothing!!!
