September is always a really busy month for me in the kitchen; all of my last remaining crops are ready to be harvested and used, preserved and/or 'put up' for use over the winter. I have a glut of the following:
Apples
Pears
Plums
Redcurrants
Blackberries
Tomatoes
Chillies
Onions
Garlic
Various herbs
I'm going to make some chutney and jam, and dry some chillies, garlic and onions. The redcurrants will probably become redcurrant jelly (delicious with lamb), and the plums usually get eaten up quickly anyway, but if there's any left over I'll do something boozy with them for having at Christmas.
I love hearing about other peoples' chutneys, jams, pickles and preserves, so tell me what you'll be doing for the next few weeks.
