This is prompted by the Food radio survey posted by @NancyTurner1994. I was surprised that two who responded didn't listen to radio. Radio is quite an important part of my life. I mainly listen to BBC Radio 4 (talk radio) and also to my local radio station. Sometimes to music channels (pop and classical)

Am I alone here? I listen in the car, in the bedroom and in the kitchen.

I do very rarely mostly because I have slight hearing loss.
Talk programs are really hard to understand.
Some letters sound identical.

Yes, I do listen to the radio occasionally, especially my local radio stations. I would sometimes listen to some talk shows, but I especially listen to the news. However, it is usually a toss up between the TV and the radio. If there is nothing interesting on TV at a given time of the day, then I would switch to the radio. Then there are those times when both the TV and the radio are off.

My OH listens to it constantly. He doesn't even turn the radio off when he stops the car engine (it stops by itself but I was always taught to turn everything off, such as lights, windscreen wipes, radio, indicators etc) before you stop the car engine, so that you know what state the car is in when you start up again, and also because if you have battery issues (and I have had a car with them) then the initial extra drain when trying to start the car won't cause a flat battery (he has been there and done that with 2 of my cars many times).). He seems to require noise constantly. I am quite the opposite. Radio does not feature in my life anymore. I used to listen to it when I lived alone - but that was more it woke me up and then I had 59 mins in bed before it turned itself off and then I got up. that was the only time I listened to it. He used to listen to Radio 2 constantly. I don't know what channel he has found over here, but there is one he likes that plays 1980's music which he enjoys. It is on every time he is in the car alone. Luckily with the car automatically bluetoothing the smartphone, it turns the radio off when a call is made, so I don't have to listen to both him and the radio over the phone. Otherwise I don't listen to it. If I want music I tend to choose what I want and play it from either my iPod or a CD.

I alwayz have music on throughout my day, in my car and at home. At home, either internet radio music stations or my Sirius XM radio, which I pay for and it's commercial free, is in my car too.:okay:

BBC Radio 4 Friday 6.30pm, News Quiz, Now Show. Mark Steele's in town is good as well apart from these no.

Thanks everyone for getting involved. It is so good to hear from people who aren't direct family and friends. It's helpful to hear that some people don't listen to the radio to its good for our research to show that we aren't too biased haha

You would benefit from an option for that in the survey if you haven't already edited /replaced it.

My radio listening is getting less, with the digital revolution my phone is always linked to something with napster playing, same as in the car at home a sonos and Bluetooth speakers at work

My hearing isn't perfect so I find it a bit difficult at times, sometimes have to ask my husband to repeat what was said but then you miss some talking over it. helps to have it on loud :)

I do have to say sometimes what I hear is much funnier than what was actually said.
There is a company here that makes breakfast snacks. It is pronounced Bell Vee Ta. There is a product here called Velveeta (processed cheese)
The first time I heard the Belvita commercial, I was wondering why they were recommending eating processed cheese for breakfast.

Oh yes... and I'm and Archers addict too!
Yes! My earliest memories of radio, aged 4 or 5, was the radio always on in the kitchen, radio 4, lunchtime, the Archers, Listen with mother, Womens hour (rapid departure at this point). Forever been an Archers addict, but have to confess fallen out of love with the programme over recent years since they brought in cosmopolitan leftie producers turning it into East enders with tractors, no longer focused on farming/countryside matters close to my heart. Met some of the cast a few years ago (Royal Show, 2003 ish) David and Ruth, and a kiss with Cathy Perks
