Unfortunately, yes. An old wives tale. I remember hearing it from the elders growing up, and they apparently were talking to TastyReuben's folks. The thing is, it is, in some circumstances, cleaner than a humans...but that's not saying much. And we can't lick some places that a dog can!

Always grossed me out that dogs will eat feces and the carcasses of decaying animals...just sayin' I was never one for doggie kisses back when I had a dog.

Yes, itā€™s an ā€œold wivesā€™ taleā€ that a dogā€™s mouth is naturally antiseptic, so letting a dog lick your open wound disinfects it and promotes rapid healing.

Google something like ā€œlet dog lick my cut,ā€ and youā€™ll get all these hits back from reputable places like medical sites, vet sites, dog breeders, etc saying, ā€œYes, itā€™s an old home cure, but no, please donā€™t do that!ā€ :laugh:
 
Well, a dog can eat feces and decaying carcasses as a matter of survival. The dogs stomach has a pH so low they can almost etch stainless steel; not that it's clean but there's a reason they can do that. šŸ˜‰

All saliva contains some natural antiseptic it also carries a phenomenal amount of bacteria. If it was true dogs would have beautiful teeth, no gum disease for their whole lives and dog breath wouldnā€™t existā€¦

Over here most people are totally grossed out by seeing someone letting a dog lick their face let alone a wound šŸ˜‚

They probably do that across the pond as well! I think humans everywhere have the same issue with the lack of frontal lobe development until the age of 24 (or never in some cases).

The crocs!!!

My frontal lobe was vaporized in an accident when I was 15. Neurosurgeon said I couldn't smell. I asked how he knew if what I smelled was a memory or a real smell??? You're it!!! šŸ¤«
