The Key is that the KNOTWOOD stems are not Woody, and they do not crack when bent ..

There are so many similar species however, most are " Woody" for example: Dogwood and Lilac amongst many others indigenious to Asia.

I'm pretty sure it is water spinach (Morning Glory). It usually has green stems but an image search revealed this:

The one in my picture is silcan from Turkey, but I don't know what we would call it. There is also a type of greenbriar which is edible and looks similar.

She ate it yesterday as an accompaniment to som tam. It is generally stir fried with garlic and oyster sauce but she just ate it raw.
