Kitchen Layout

Agree with almost everything here as I have a small kitchen. In fact my kitchen is smaller than the one shown here. In my case, there Is no way I could keep all those appliances on the counters and retain a space to roll out dough. In fact, partly for that reason, I have few electrical kitchen gadgets.

I don’t like his kitchen 😬
He has too much stuff out and visually it’s cluttered bordering on messy.
I like to wipe the surfaces down without lifting machinery and wiping around things can only go on for so long - as I’ve discovered in the utility where my small appliances are left out.

I also like having people in the kitchen so long as they sit down (out of my way) when they’re asked because people chat differently in a kitchen, I don’t know if it’s the lack of eye contact because you’re otherwise engaged 🤷‍♀️ but it all comes tumbling out.

My kitchen here in Spain is much smaller than his. The only issues I currently have is putting hot pans down and the heat.
I have to make sure there’s cork out on the dining table (which is right next to the kitchen) so there’s enough space for things like hot roasting tins.
The heat in a small kitchen is very magnified, that is much easier to manage in a larger kitchen.

Overall I don’t disagree with him about a small kitchen but I also don’t agree large kitchens don’t make sense. Extra storage space is always a good thing in my book.

"Small" is probably the wrong word in my mind. "Compact and accessible" is more accurate. I know exactly where everything is in my kitchen, of course; but when I'm cooking, everything is on the kitchen top (or cooker) ready to be used. Mise en place doesn't just include the ingredients.
Knives on a magnet band, no way. Too risky, not just for kids, evidently, but also for adults. Knives, especially razor sharp knives, should be kept well out of sight.
Clutter is not something I like - my kitchen has everything inside drawers, cupboards, etc. The only things on the counter are the microwave and the toaster; everything else is out of sight. His kitchen would make me claustrophobic.
Single sink? Nope - I prefer my double sink.
Doesn't like people in the kitchen watching him?? Come on, one of the great things about cooking is sharing with others. It's not a sanctuary, it's a place for enjoying food, which everyone is going to share. If he thinks cooking is for Carmelite monks then he's way off the register. Friends who come into my kitchen come to learn, to share and to criticise - objectively, of course.
Obviously, you want a well-designed kitchen: cooker next to the counter next to the sink next to the fridge.
I think the man needs to cook a BBQ for 30 people right now, see if he manages or not.

Each to their own
My kitchen is open plan and quite big so I can cook and talk to people.
Have space to put things down, and still enough counter space.

I should add that if I had all the appliances shown in the video I wouldn't have room for a chopping board either.

Here’s an even shorter one from Laura Calder, with an even smaller kitchen, and in favor of having everything out in the open:

It’s cute. I like the look of it and I think they’ve done a lovely job making it appealing, very shabby chic! They made some great use of the space but I definitely would not want it.
I can’t imagine trying to do a decent Sunday roast in there, there’s just nowhere to set down multiple hot pans.
Plus I would not want to regularly clean all of that stuff. Even on the tiny screen size here you can see it’s a weeny bit grubby.

But if someone else took care of all the maintenance in keeping a kitchen like that clean I would be far more inclined to go in that direction, just not with a family size number of peeps to feed.

Rachel Koo (so cute) from Croyden made her little Paris kitchen famous. In fact she ran a sought after mini restaurant from her little kitchen in Paris:

Well she and her kitchen are adorable. Don’t know how I missed her but back in 2012 I watched zero television or any screens so maybe that’s why.
I like her attitude. I wondered how she was doing now (as the series is over 10 years old) and apparently very well.

I enjoyed what she said about French chefs 😂

Edit: and to stay on topic you can see her little kitchen in this -

I think she married and moved to Sweden at one point and did a show from there, which was as very interesting, again due to her old-fashioned farmhouse kitchen.

Nope. Definitely nope.
We often invite 8-10 people for lunch/dinner and there are always pasapalos ( that more or less translates into hors d'oeuvres, or amuse bouche. I refuse to use the word "nibbles"because it reminds me of rabbits  ).
No way could I tolerate all the clutter around me. I like a nice, clean, tidy kitchen, and that one looks like a bric-a-brac shop.
The fridge would only be good enough to keep my cold beer in.:laugh::laugh:
