A really tasty recipe, simple to make and the kids love it.
I usually leave out the black treacle as it doesn't seem to need it (plus black treacle always seems to be one of those things that hangs around the store cupboard for months half-used just making a sticky mess).
If you really need some added sweetness and depth of flavor you can replace it with 1 tbsp of dark brown sugar and the Worcestershire sauce will take care of the rest.
Ingredients
1 tbsp vegetable oil
8 good-quality pork sausages
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 carrots, chopped
2 x 415 g tins Heinz Baked Beans
2 tbsp Heinz Tomato Ketchup
1 bay leaf
1 tbsp Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
1 tbsp black treacle
Method
1. Heat the oil in a large heavy-based casserole dish and brown the sausages all over, about 5min. Lift out and set aside.
2. Add the onion and carrots to the pan and cook gently, covered, for 10min until soft. Stir in the baked beans, tomato ketchup, bay leaf, Worcestershire sauce, black treacle and some seasoning. Return the sausages to the pan, cover and simmer gently for 10min, stirring occasionally, until the sausages are cooked through.
3. Check the seasoning. Remove the bay leaf before serving with a green salad or crusty bread.
