These are sausage shaped flavoured sausage meat and dyed a red colour (don't know why) and a cheap meal. Growing up we had them a lot with mash spuds and peas. You can get smoked as well, but I prefer plain. You boil them. Quick n easy. Nice cold as well, most are made at factories mass produced but I buy from a butcher who makes the old fashioned way by hand. Don't know if it's a Brit thing??

Those sound a lot like Glazier franks from where my wife is from. They're bright red, in a natural casing. Locally, they're called red hots, or red rockets, though some of us young out-of-staters who'd never seen them before called them dog d*cks! :laugh:

They are kind of spices, my friend says butchers buy the spice mix that goes in it, it contains some curry powder I'm told?
