I thought I'd have a go at making shepherds pie with lamb leg steak. Unfortunately it took a long time to cook the steak - much longer than the time indicated on the packaging. I think my grill is not very efficient. I just cut up the cooked steak and mixed it with gravy and mashed root veg and topped it with mashed potato. It tasted not too bad, but it was annoying that the lamb leg steak took so long to cook. I decided on that because I had one in the fridge and we only ever have roast lamb at Christmas time. Maybe I'll try lamb mince next time.

Shepherd's pie using left over cooked lamb can be the best but I usually make it with left over slow cooked shoulder of lamb which is very tender. I think probably that leg steak isn't the best cut. Shoulder is brilliant though.

Thanks very much for the tip Morning Glory! I might try cooking shoulder of lamb sometime. I never thought of it before. I always just cooked leg of lamb.
