Sichuan Pepper

For the past few weeks, a friend and I have been trying to source Sichuan pepper locally, but without success. Three days ago, we agreed to buy a couple of packs mail order despite the shipping cost being almost the same price as the pepper.

This morning, my wife informed me that her mother grows Sichuan pepper in the north of Thailand and she has a bag full in the house here. Obviously the Thai name is different and it has only just clicked with her that it was the same produce.

Too late to cancel now.

It didn't work out too bad in the end. I ordered one pack each for my mate and I which entitled us to another pack free. Each 100 gm pack was $2.00 and the individual postage was $1.50. The postage for 3 packs was still $1.50 so we paid just $5.50 for 3 x 100 gms.

It originates in Pai on the Myanmar border which is about as far north as you can get in Thailand.
