I just came across this article

Are there health benefits to eating turmeric and other spices?

It's a 2020 article, recently revised

I happen to like chili's, garlic, turmeric and ginger (and even coffee, but thats another article I gotta dig up)
My gut feeling (couldn't resist) is that they may be right in saying it is not so much the spice alone, but the combination with vegetables and accompanying food

(Morning Glory , trying to get new threads up. Be careful what you wish for :giggle: )

These are just some of the spice that I have and use

And yes, they are in alphabetical order.

Serious.... :)

I wouldnt be able to put them in alfabetic order as I know turmeric as geelwortel, kurkuma and kunyit.
Ginger as gember and djahé etc
I group by type:
Peppers together,
coriander, cumin, cardemom, ginger, fenugreek, turmeric together
Italian herbs, mixed herbs, rosemary, organo etc together

Stupid question, but do you put together your own spice blends?
I do, and I had a nicely organised spice shelf until my OH started cooking again and if he can't find something, he buys new, if he gets to the end of something, he buys new even though I can guarantee we've got an unopened packet of it.

I no longer know where everything is anymore.
It might have to be a Christmas project!

Only the middle mini-shelf on the left is dried herbs, the rest are spices or the rose water that won't fit on another shelf.

I'm convinced that there are huge benefits in the use of spices - and I use them every single day. At the last count, I had over 40 different spices and a load of spice mixtures. There's no doubt in my mind that Indian cuisine is head and shoulders above the rest of the world in its judicious use of spices.

Yes I do.
One of the main reasons is that I can make the blends without salt.
So now it is my choice to use salt or soy sauce or fish sauce or whatever other source of salt.
Also my liking & tolerance for spices and heat is apparently much higher than standard. So if I get the spice right, it's too salty for me

I can out-spice you....

That’s what got me making my own. Several years ago, I’d picked up a standard national-brand packet of taco seasoning, and noticed the main ingredients were salt, flour, and maltodextrine, and I thought, “Well, that doesn’t sound very Texy-Mexy,” and I realized I had everything already in my spice cupboard to make my own.
