There are incarnations of Cornish Pasties all over the UK - and Europe for that matter - but the best ones definitely come from Cornwall and - I'm whispering this, in case there any Cornishmen listening in - Devon. A true Cornish Pasty contains beef - skirt or chuck steak make the best pasties, potatoes, onions and swede. Anything else just isn't Cornish enough for a Cornish Pasty.
So, after 20 years of living in Cornwall and Devon, I think I'm qualified to offer advice on the best Cornish Pasties you can buy ready-made. In no particular order, as they say when the results are announced on Dancing on Ice, these are the best pasties you can buy:
Malcolm Barnecutt's Bakery - Wadebridge, St Merryn and Bodmin, Cornwall
The Chough Bakery - Padstow, Cornwall
Rowe's Bakery - Plymouth, Devon and Falmouth andTruro, Cornwall
Ann's Pasties - The Lizard, Helston Cornwall. You can also buy online.
Those are my recommendations - any to add? Any to avoid?
