Mod edit: new thread on tinned baked beans (and spaghetti)

Evening meal, in still trying to get rid of the taste of the baked beans. At some point, my OH must have picked up 1 wrong tin in the mix. We always get the Australian low salt Heinz beans, not the English recipe ones. Even my OH commented that they tasted odd when I carefully asked they tasted OK to him.

The English recipe has way too much salt and not enough tomato taste in it. Maybe I need to try making my own?

While I've never had British baked beans I found this recipe that's tasty and the recipe is by this woman who certainly has more British cooking history than this Georgia boy. :D

You've never had Heinz Baked Beans (which is the standard BB in the UK)? They actually originated in America didn't they?

No, unless they were served in a restaurant. Only beans I have in cans are garbonzo, black, and cannellini. I buy dry in a bag and cook from there.

Talking of Heinz I had this today. I open a can of it every few years as a reminder of the sort of thing I ate growing up. I'm not sure I even still like it lol. Any Italians seeing or tasting this would be apoplectic, but to millions of Brits this is what they think of when you say Bolognese!

Lately I've started thinking of these sorts of products as a 'sauce' rather than a side dish or whatever they're intended as. Great for when I'm doing a convenience meal for my kids with something air-fried like fish fingers or sausages and chips and then I'll pop one of these open to go along with it so the meal isn't as dry and it gives it some kind of gravy-ish condiment.

Hmm, that's a good line of use. I'll have to explore that with the consideration of the pasta that's in play. 👍
