Wasn't super sure what forum to start this topic in, but here goes ...

I can say that I was a very active member of another food forum and was invited to join CB by Morning Glory .
I just now looked at my profile and it's been just about three years that I've been here.
I enjoy the site very much for the recipes, the photos, the fun, the learning experience, the sense of community.
There's very little to no back biting, scolding, basic nastiness as in other sites.
Everyone is quite supportive in many ways.
I'd say the tops on my list is that is a World-Wide community. Folks are from all over the globe, I love it!

I don’t know if I ever mentioned the name, but now that they’re defunct, I can say that having a horrible experience, day in and day out, at Chowhound pushed me to CB.

Everything, from their beyond-cumbersome user interface to their condescending membership to their hostile staff prompted me to look for a better place…and I found it here, just through a Google search.

I came here from a discussion group first started by an American food magazine. They stopped supporting the online group so then one of our members started another website. Unfortunately, participation has dwindled to almost nothing on some days. It was a great group of people but not near enough activity.

I'm looking for an online group that loves food as much as I do. I am happy to see such an international group here.

I came to CookingBites when it's founder started it up back in October 2012. I was very active on another of his sites but health issues and ending up in a wheelchair meant by participation there grew less and I had a lot of time on my hands being bedbound, so I became a moderator here along with having been one on his other site for years.

I ended up owning the site back in 2016 when it's founder needed to concentrate on home life and his main forum.

I came from a different forum, that was great, till it got sold.
Then I tried some others, didn't like their attitude and tried this forum as I recognised some participant names.
But I got rejected :(
Apparently because of a time zone issue or so.
Reached out via the old forum and the door got opened :bravo:

I like the laid back atmosphere and the multiple nationalities involved

Sorry about that, we do have quite strict policies on the signing up side of life. If you ever saw the amount of spam and advertising we see, you'd understand. Just ask karadekoolaid though it's a lot better than it used to be, but we still get it. At least the fake passports, hardwood kitchens and porn don't both trying often anymore, just anyone with a business who thinks I/we should pay their advertising costs. I think not.

I'm just glad you reached out and asked. :D

I hope you will love it here. Could you persuade a few of those in that other group you belong to to join here too. We really need some new regular members.

I was on a foodie chat forum over 20 years ago. That folded, and I joined the BBC. Then the beeb decided to close their forum, so one of the members opened a BBC Refugees chat. That worked fine for a few years, but eventually numbers dwindled and it became a chit chat forum, with few or no discussions on food. That's when I discovered CB in 2021.
It's great to be able to share with home cooks from all over the world and I'm amazed how much I've learned over the years.
We're also a very tolerant group with, in most cases, a wicked sense of humour - always an asset!
