Do you have a favorite comfort food to make for yourself? Mine would be three cheese mac and cheese with tomatoes. I try different combos of the cheese and so far all of them have come out tasting great!

dairy free custard! I know its odd, but I love custard and it has always been my comfort food, homemade of course, but now I am allergic to dairy, I have to have the dairy free version, but I have found a good ready made dairy free one... :licklips:

There are a number of comfort foods that I like... both sweet and savory. For one of each, I think I'd have to choose meatloaf and chocolate. Or chocolate covered meatloaf? JUST kidding! :roflmao:

Seriously, though, chocolate has been my comfort food since I was a little girl. No matter what kind of eating plan I'm on, I just can't get rid of the total craving.

When it comes to the meatloaf, I can at least try to make it a little healthier by using very lean meat, less meat, etc. but I can't really make chocolate healthier. Carob doesn't work for me, and sugar free often has just as many calories.

I love making souffle! The first time I had souffle was when I went to a souffle restaurant in SF called cafe jacqueline and it totally blew my socks off! I didn't know a simple souffle could taste so good so after that experience, I researched methods all around the web on trying to find the perfect souffle recipe. It was hard to get started at first and there'd be days when I'd just throw away souffles I made after a couple bites but I've come to a point where I can easily make an amazing souffle quickly.

Meatloaf is good along with red skin mashed potatoes with garlic. Sublime would be a good word for that one!

Mashed potatoes with a ton of sharp cheddar cheese. Or potato soup with bacon, onions and cheese. Potatoes of any sort are a comfort food to me. I just love them. When I'm feeling sad, I usually have a bowl of mashed potatoes. My mom makes the best potato soup so I usually ask her to make me some if I'm feeling sick or just need a pick me up. OH and I also really love French onion soup when I'm feeling under the weather.

My favorite would have to be german potato dumplings w/bacon and onions. It's a family favorite and we even have days dedicate to having family over JUST to make and eat them. They're very filling and very tasty for so few ingredients.

I would have to say breakfast. Eggs and Home Fries in particular. There is nothing that caps off a rough night out or kicks off a new day better than a big breakfast. If I have a huge breakfast before work, I am in a great mood the rest of the day. If I have it after a night of hard partying, I sleep like a baby.

I usually prep and parboil the potatoes the night before, because they seek to cook up better that way than to go from parboiling them directly to another pan to fry them. I also like another technique I saw some cooks using, where they tossed the potatoes in a mixing bowl a bit to rough up the surface of them a bit. It makes the surface crisp up better when frying them and helps the seasonings to stick to them better too.

I think my favorite comfort foods are meatloaf, beef stew, good homemade veggie beef soup, mashed potatoes and chocolate cake.

I love meatloaf and it is one of the best comfort foods that I can think of. When I am feeling down I will cook a meatloaf or get one out of the freezer to cook. (I tend to mix up the ingredients before hand and freeze in a save a meal bag). Cook up some good mashed potatoes to go along with the meatloaf and I am headed to comfort zone.

Comfort food for me, would be a gigantic burger with just about anything I would have on hand. Although it takes some time to chop up all the veggies, I think a classic burger + good movie combo is hard to beat.

Soups would be my number one comfort dishes since they are always warm and hearty. Of these, my favorite ones to make are homemade ramen or french onion soup. I also like to use canned or packed soup sometimes, but even though they taste good, I still prefer homemade ones more because they taste a lot fresher.

Sweet - pancakes with butter and real maple syrup. Any time of day.
Savory - fried potatoes fixed a number of ways. Depending on the craving, I could make Belgian fries topped with beanless chili and Cheddar cheese. Then again, hash with a crispy bottom goes well with onions, eggs and a good breakfast meat.

Ohhh someone mentioned beef stew! That's another one for me, too. Hashbrowns and onions sound soooo good right now, lol. Potato soup or broccoli and cheese soup are always my go to soups for when I'm feeling sick. I think the main key to comfort foods is probably carbs. I've noticed potatoes seem to be in the lead for comfort food. Maybe because they are so versatile? I know growing up, my mom always had potatoes on hand and would make us mashed potatoes or potato soup when we were sick ect. I always thought that was where I got it from.

My weakness is ramen. I'm never supposed to eat it but sometimes...I do. The other day I was feeling kind of down in the dumps and I had some beef ramen. It actually made me feel better, lol.

I like eating porridge or noodles in a hot broth whenever I feel down. They are very comforting and effective to make me feel better. The thing is I only eat those ones that I made. So I have to personally made them.

Meatloaf with mashed red potatoes and garlic is always a good one. Homemade mac and cheese with a spinach salad is another.
