It used to be that it was proper to eat dinner at your dining room table, but that is not so much the case anymore. We usually eat dinner in the living room with TV trays while we watch the news or whatever else is on. Where does you family eat dinner?

We eat all of our meals at the meal table, it is very rare we eat whilst sat on the sofa.

Until I injured my back leaving me unable to sit up, every meal was taken at the table no matter what. Now is another matter, but I can't wait to be able to use the table again! Sitting in front of the TV not interacting with my husband does not appeal to me at all!

We eat at the kitchen table. We don't have a dining room. Sometimes we will eat in the living room if we are watching a long movie, but I don't like to dinthat often because it increases the chances of spilling.

Most of the time we eat dinner/lunch sitting in front of the TV with a tray in hand. There are a few times, however, that I would still sit at the table, which is a table located in the kitchen, to eat my meals, but never at the dining table in the dining room. This dining table is only used when guests come to eat. The same goes for breakfast. I like to watch the early morning local talk show on TV, and that comes on around the time that I am having my breakfast. Having said this, though, I still think eating meals at the table is more comfortable.

We don't have a table and I live in a small place, so I eat wherever I can find open counter space. Generally this means the counter on which I prepared the food, washed down and scrubbed. Other times this means my lap or the arm of my chair. Any which way, I could eat standing so it doesn't bother me.

We currently don't have a living room, still a building site, and so we live in the kitchen.
That means that we eat on sofas around the coffee table, often while listening to the radio or with something on the TV.

When we have our living room done then the 'living' will be transferred to there and we will set up our dining table in the kitchen as a kitchen diner.
We will then take our meals at the dining table.

When I was growing up my folks always made us sit to the table, I think it is a good thing because it meant we sat and talked. TVC and I sit at the table and talk to each other. Personally I think it is important to eat together and share your experiences of the day, a good way to bond.

I grew up the same way. We always sat at the table, and with my folks we still do.
However, the TV is always on and they sit and watch TV while eating and will also talk over it.

I do like being able to spend time sitting and eating at a table without the TV being on. If there is stuff that we want to watch then it can be recorded.

Arch cooks so well that it is a shame that we can't do that yet.

Before we had children it was just the two of us in front of the tv. But now we always sit at the dining room table for all our meals. Sometimes my husband will be looking at the iPad though, which drives me nuts. The t.v will be on sometimes too, but it's usually not as a bad of a distraction as the iPad.

We grew up in two extremes, so I guess we are at a good compromise. His family was very strict about family meals together with no distractions, and my family was always working so I often ate alone in the family room.

TBH I think it rude to sit at a meal table and play with a phone or ipad, because it shows little respect for the time and effort put into making the meal. Maybe that is just the way I was brought up, different things work for different people.

I grew up sitting at the table to eat meals as well and I wish I could get my fiance to buy into the idea. We tried for a while, but then he moved us back into the living room. He is not much of a talker and so the meals were mostly in silence anyway. I noticed recently that his parents also eat in front of the TV. It never really dawned on me before.

I agree with this, but sometimes it is whatever you are both comfortable with at the time.

I am not a great talker at the best of times and over a meal I will either talk, or eat.

Even though we work at the same place we still like to chat about the day when we get home. Once we are done that is it regarding work and we talk about other stuff.
