beer

Beer is one of the oldest and the most widely consumed alcoholic drinks in the world.
Beer is one of the oldest and the most widely consumed alcoholic drinks in the world. It is produced by the brewing and fermentation of starches, mainly derived from cereal grains (commonly malted barley, though wheat, maize (corn), rice, and oats are also used). During the brewing process, fermentation of the starch sugars in the wort produces ethanol and carbonation in the resulting beer. Most modern beer is brewed with hops, which add bitterness and other flavours and act as a natural preservative and stabilizing agent. Other flavouring agents such as gruit (a herb mixture), herbs, or fruits may be included or used instead of hops.
When beer is distilled, the resulting liquor is a form of whisky.

Would you like beer or wine with your egg Gondola pie?

My mailbox is always stuffed with menus from local restaurants. Most of them deliver. The most recent menu was from a pizza place that delivers beer and wine with your order, if you choose. An interesting item on the menu is egg Gondola pizzas. There are four varieties. The pizza dough is shaped...

Britain - a nation of coffee and wine drinkers?

I appreciate that members of this forum come from all around the world, but there's a fair smattering of Brits on here and here's something I found interesting. It's (bear with me, it does get interesting) the Family Expenditure Report from the Office of National Statistics. Well, not all of...

    What is your favorite beer?

I don't drink beer that often, but when I did I stuck with Miller Light. Then my sister introduced me to Newcastle and I've never gone back to Miller Light. Amazingly, Newcastle, although an import, is not any more expensive than our local beers. Not all bars carry it, but most stores do...
