Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, the seeds of berries from certain Coffea species. From the coffee fruit, the seeds are separated to produce a stable, raw product: unroasted green coffee. The seeds are then roasted, a process which transforms them into a consumable product: roasted coffee, which is ground into a powder and typically steeped in hot water before being filtered out, producing a cup of coffee.
Coffee is darkly coloured, bitter, slightly acidic and has a stimulating effect in humans, primarily due to its caffeine content. It is one of the most popular drinks in the world, and can be prepared and presented in a variety of ways (e.g., espresso, French press, caffè latte, or already-brewed canned coffee). It is usually served hot, although chilled or iced coffee is common. Sugar, sugar substitutes, milk or cream are often used to lessen the bitter taste.

I appreciate that members of this forum come from all around the world, but there's a fair smattering of Brits on here and here's something I found interesting. It's (bear with me, it does get interesting) the Family Expenditure Report from the Office of National Statistics.
Well, not all of...

Where does the word cappuccino come from and how did the word for a Capuchin friar come to be used for a cup of coffee? And why did they serve coffee made with egg whites and yolks? OK that last one is not answered but I found it an interesting read but I have to say I am not tempted to try...

When you buy coffee do you buy ground bags or whole bean? There really is no price difference at the store so I tend to buy a little of both. I think whole bean tastes better if you can grind it in batches at home, but preground is more convenient when you are sleepy in the morning.

I do not drink coffee on a regular basis, but when I do, I like to use the 3 in 1 packets, although this is not the only type of coffee I would use. I think the 3 in 1 Nescafe is very convenient to use. It contains added milk and sugar and comes in small packets that are easy to open. These...

Anyone familiar with bulletproof coffee? It's butter mixed with mct oil and coffee. It supposedly has brain enhancing effects... I don't use the product but I put coconut oil in my coffee instead. I find that it actually tastes good! Or maybe I just got used to it.
