dinner
Dinner usually refers to what is in many Western cultures the largest and most formal meal of the day, which some Westerners eat in the midday. Historically, the largest meal used to be eaten around midday, and called dinner. In Western cultures, especially among the elite, it gradually migrated to later in the day over the 16th to 19th centuries. However, the word "dinner" can have different meanings depending on culture, and may mean a meal of any size eaten at any time of day. In particular, it is still sometimes used for a meal at noon or in the early afternoon on special occasions, such as a Christmas dinner. In hot climates, people have always tended to eat the main meal in the evening, after the temperature has fallen.

I hate leftovers! Sometimes I cook too much, and dislike eating the same meal a few days in a row, or having food sit in the fridge for a few days..
I've been toying with the idea of getting a set of divider plates that go from freezer to microwave, and...
Came across this recipe a few weeks ago. I wanted to try it & was successful today! They're about to go in the oven! Yesterday I tried it, but the dough just wouldn't rise!! I had to throw it out & do it again.
Ingredients;
1 cup warm water
2-1/2 teaspoons yeast (1 packet)
1/8 cup sugar (I...
Next month, SEP 7th to be precise I'm hosting a 16 player dinner/poker party (the poker will actually go for two days lol).
I've decided that I'm serving Taco's. I'm off on the 7th and will be able to get all the prep work done ahead of time.
I'm going to keep a running list of ingredients in...
I am looking for recipes for a quick, easy and delicious dinner. Sometimes after work, I need to cook dinner quickly and I am looking for inspiration. You can write the recipe or cookbook you use.
Mod note: please remember to post links to recipes here rather than actual recipes themselves.
Figures compiled for BBC News suggest the average cost of a typical dinner for six has risen by 14% since 2015. Spending £64.25 on one meal will be out of the reach of many but, whether you can afford it or not, what's the best way to get a good deal ahead of the big day? BBC News spoke to food...
Does your family cook for you on Mother’s Day? My husband use to make barbecue ribs, chicken and hot dogs. My husband would cook so much that we had enough to freeze. We also had enough meat stored in the fridge that would last for days. That was a real Mother’s Day gift for me! :D:laugh::cool:
I don’t normally make a big deal about cooking on Easter, but this year I decided to cook Ham, macaroni and cheese with string beans. My family enjoyed my ham, but I thought it was just ok. I normally purchase my ham at Sam’s Club, but this time I got it from my local grocery store. I found a...
What are you making for dinner tonight? Do you plan that day or do you have a weekly/monthly plan? We are having spaghetti which I decided yesterday when I defrosted the meat.
Okay, so today I cooked up some Manwich for my hubby (as per his request), and joined him in eating one of these. After a couple of bites I could not stomach this any longer, it was too sweet and not quite flavorful at all. I felt like I was eating some amateur cooking.
My husband really...
Sometimes on a busy work night, breakfast for dinner is the perfect meal. Instead of meatloaf and mash potatoes, bacon, eggs and pancakes are just as satisfying and far less of a hassle. Does anyone here ever crave a hearty breakfast at times other than the morning? How often do you have...
In our house the Christmas "bird" is a large turkey crown (we don't have a big enough oven to accommodate a whole bird and all the potatoes and veg etc. so we get a crown from the butcher around the corner and cook it on the top shelf).
Are you a turkey family or do you cook a different bird...
