Christmas 2022

Houses around here are very subdued this year, very few are trimmed up. One house that normally trims up at the end of November have done nothing this year. I assume it is all to do with the energy prices going through the roof, a shame but that is how it is.

Yeah there are less lights on people's homes here too, but I've not noticed anything different inside people's homes.

Fran Tarkenton. I remember him well. Hall of Famer.

But, you should posted a defensive Viking of the same era, known as 'The Purple People Eaters.'

I do have this, so I felt obliged:

And these were some Christmas freebies with points collected depending on what you'd spent during the promotion period.

The plan is to upgrade the picnic set from IKEA children's plastic bowls, plates and cutlery to something a little nicer.

So far I have 2 plates, 2 pasta bowls and 2 sets of cutlery. I've another 45 points already so that's either another set of cutlery and 10 spare points or perhaps some glasses? I can get 2 long drinks glasses for 25 points.

I fully support picnic upgrades! 🧺

It’s very much the opposite here - both MrsT and I have noticed and commented several times that more houses than ever have lights up, and many of them are more elaborate than ever. Even on our little street, more decorations than we’ve ever seen.

We’re attributing it to a general feeling of wanting to celebrate after nearly three years of the covid blues and the dip in the economy this past year.

A local group was set up 2 years ago to encourage locals to trim up and cheer up because of the covid downer, the past couple of years the area has looked great but energy prices are so high, fair enough some cannot afford to trim up

I don’t think anyone here would know how much running Christmas lights for a month or so would even affect their electric bill. I think it’s assumed to be minuscule and not worth considering, whether that’s true or not.

Well yeah we could afford that way of thinking too until a certain moron decided invading Ukraine would be fun.

Our light strings are about 40 watts each, so less than running an incandescent bulb, also because we have them on twinkle then consumption is reduced. Given that they are only on about 4 hours a day for 20 days, the cost is quite low. A couple of cost calculation sites have it at less than a bottle of cheap wine, all in.
