I use mine for searing steaks. I've never noticed a butane taste.

I don't use the sous vide that much, but I think I will try the torch to sear the meat next time.Butane is pretty clean. I don't notice a butane flavor. Propane can leave a propane flavor, if you aren't careful, and let the flame get too close to your food -- unless you have a catalyst type adapter, like the Searzall.

Yeah, I do as well. I use one mostly for desserts though.I don't know why, but part of me feels like it's cheating to use one.
At least you don't use it to singe your ear hairs.I use them for lighting cigars...

Nah. Nivea cream and sulphuric acid does that for me, mate.At least you don't use it to singe your ear hairs.
