Do you trim the excess chicken skin before frying chicken thighs?

Oh I know that of course. But its not so much here although KFC is a popular fast food. I've never tried it. Its not really my thing.
Yeah, I am not fond of KFC...do you like any fried foods?

One of my favorite ways to fry chicken is to mix grated parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and lemon pepper in a blend of panko and regular breadcrumbs for the breading, it's really tasty.

Fish 'n chips! But that depends on a perfect batter for the fish. I like chips with other things sometimes. I'm sure there are other deep fried food I like but I rarely eat them. Maybe I'm a bit like SatNavSaysStraightOn in that respect.

I associate deep fried with crusty coatings and high calories and just not very exciting really. Sorry - I don't mean to be negative.

No need to apologize. If we all liked the same things the world would be a boring place indeed. I don't find organ meats exciting (in fact, I find them disgusting, LOL) but I am pretty sure it doesn't bother you!

I too do not eat fried foods often, maybe once a month or less.

Do you like chicken cordon bleu?

Wow! Double Wow!

Growing up, we had fried chicken multiple times a week, including for breakfast (leftover from the night before). KFC isn't very good at all, IMO, even for fast food. If I'm getting it from a fast food place, I usually go to Popeye's.

When we lived there, they used to have a Popeye's at RAF Lakenheath, and whenever we'd go over that way, we always ate at Popeye's, even if we weren't hungry, because it was our only opportunity for decent fried chicken (apart from making it myself), and we'd usually bring back extra for eating over the next couple of days.

Yeah, growing up I ate fried chicken about once a week. As an adult, I found a lot of other things I enjoyed, so I didn't cut out fried food for health reasons, I just put it more into rotation. I have found that hot food counters at a few local grocery stores churn out pretty good stuff. It's a lot less messy and not much more expensive to just buy it there.

I do like Popeye's, but the ones we have in my area are in unsavory neighborhoods and honestly, they are a bit dirty and so are the people cooking and serving the food. That big guy in the kitchen who looks like he hasn't showered in a week sweating in my food? Ick. At the grocery store they wear hairnets and the kitchens are bigger and probably not as hot as that guy is standing over the fryer. Anyway.

Its not a well known dish here (or if so is very old school). I know of it and think I once cooked it.
It's about the only thing my husband knows how to make and he does it well. If I buy a large pack of skinless boneless breasts, he will trim them up and slice them thin, then roll them up with the Swiss cheese and ham slices inside, and we will wrap them in plastic wrap individually and freeze them. Then I can take a few out to thaw when we are in the mood and I will bread and fry them. He does manage to get chicken bits all over the place pounding them out, LOL.

Just searched and way back in the history of this forum I did make it! See here.

We grew up about 30 minutes from the Indiana Fried Chicken Trail - a string of restaurants in southeastern Indiana that specialize in fried chicken, so even when we didn't have it at home, we were more than likely having it out somewhere in Indiana.

I think I mentioned it before, but the one Popeye's we used to have in Minneapolis was in a pretty bad neighborhood, and my coworker/friend, he used to beg me to go with him as his escort, as in, I had to follow him on his way home in my car, and then spot him while he went through the drive-through for chicken to take home.

This is my favorite chicken place that's not a national chain:

RICHIE'S RESTAURANT - Fried Chicken & Fish, and Soul Food Sides

Some of those are in some bad parts of Cincinnati, including close to my office. I used to walk over for lunch, and people would say, "Where ya goin' fer lunch?"

I'd say, "Richie's...ya wanna come on wi' me?"

"Nope...and nice knowin' ya!"

There was this little hole-in-the wall, greasy-spoon diner in FL just north of where I lived (just before the Alabama state line) that we always stopped at when traveling every chance we got. It was called the 331 Diner (because it was off Hwy 331). It has since closed, I don't know when or why. It had probably 6 tables inside and it was always packed with a line outside waiting and plenty of to-go orders going on. They had the best fried chicken around, almost as good as my grandma's.

After I first moved to OH, every time I went south I had to have fried chicken and sweet tea, because up here the fried chicken is kinda lame, and sweet tea? They now serve it at some places (I guess McDonald's made it nationally popular), but when I first moved here I would ask for sweet tea and they would say, "We have sugar packets on the table". Well everyone knows that sugar doesn't dissolve in iced tea very well. And the tea was this light tan color that you could easily see through, I couldn't even taste tea flavor. If you put lemon in it it tasted like lemon water. My SE Texas grandmother made it thick and dark, and very sweet and that's the way I like it!

Anyway, my husband's family all told me how great the Ohio famous Barberton Fried Chicken is: Belgrade Gardens. Well guess what, it's not. Compared to southern fried chicken, it's mediocre at best. It's got this thick coating and is kinda doughy, it just isn't crispy and the coating is bland. Disappointing. There are a few places here now that serve good fried chicken, like Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken | Akron, OH. And then there is the grocery store Giant Eagle, who used to do a Barberton-style chicken but they changed their preparation method and now they do more of a southern-style fried chicken.

Okay I am going to go eat something, not chicken because we didn't have any leftovers, but all this talk of fried chicken is making me hungry!
