Egg cups

You often in the UK get novelty mugs and sometimes egg cups with Easter eggs.

One of the kids had these a long time ago.

Love that egg cup shape. What is the date of the egg cup (approx.)?

that's from a German set of dishes - purchased mid-1980's.
I do believe the 'low ridge format' is still around/popular

If it works like mine, the handle is spring-loaded, and you pull back on that ball at the end and let it go, and...WHACK!...it scores a little line around the egg and you can then knock it off easily.

I'll admit, I can never get it to work as well as my wife can. When I do it, it shatters the shell into little pieces all along the scored line and I end up picking pieces of shell out of the side of the egg. My wife can get it to cut the shell very cleanly.

I've got the same one. Yes it works OK. Not perfect though.

I'm finding I have a real affinity for egg cups, and I'm strongly resisting the urge to start collecting them!

what TR said - the cup has a very sharp "lip" where it sits on the egg.
when lifted/released the ball "whacks" the shell all around.

there is a knack - DW's first try she had a death grip on the egg - top came off but then she crushed the egg in the cup....
