Foods that aren't what they are named after in your country

JAS_OH1 and I were having an interesting discussion about American margharita pizza recently, as it turns out what is sold here isn't the American way to do it.
So I thought to present you all with this:

This is sold in the Netherlands as ' American fries sauce' and it's mayo with green herbs, as sold by McDonald's here. I know it's definitely not known in America.

Does your country have foods that are supposed to be from other countries, but is not actually from them?

Ok I just thought of one. Bottled Italian salad dressing doesn't really exist in Italy I believe. I've never been there, but I think salads are simply dressed with vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper (I like that quite well). Here in the USA they've got a wall of Italian dressings in bottles at the store with herbs, garlic, etc. It is tasty stuff though.

Edited to add that it's kinda the same thing with French dressing. It's not what they're eating in France. I think it's gross. It's got ketchup in it. Ketchup on salad, shudders.

Yeah it is, but it has more herbs than just the tarragon. It also contains dill and pickle juice.

Ahhh so it's tarragon tartar sauce, sort of, only no pickle chunks like tartar sauce has (here). I bet that would be really good with fried fish.

Well that sauce is available here, and it's close but doesn't exactly taste the same either. But I do think you're quite close with that description. It is good with fried fish.

Here's another one:

Raw beef spread ( like beef tartar) with mayo and spices, sold as ' American fillet' . It's Belgian by origin, and called that because apparently they fed this to American soldiers during ww2.

Tarragon tartar sauce isn't sold commercially but I've seen recipes online for it. The bottled stuff is rather boring and doesn't have any herbs in it as far as I know.

Yeah and it's too sweet, the ' American ' sauce McDonald's sells here is kinda tangy

Ahhhh, yes…I remember having quite a discussion around that when I added a recipe for it:

I had a pizza margaritha at the airport here and it contained bell pepper.

Not here, but in Thailand they have American fried rice, containing sweet peas and tomato ketchup amongst lot of others
