My DH was a drummer. I've got a thing for drummers. They're generally underappreciated by audiences and the rhythm goes further than whilst on stage, if you know what I mean!Looks like we have a regular raft musicians in the community. While I did play the piano at the time, my performance was mostly on drums. I played with a garage band in high school and later I played with several groups. We had a pianist that was better than me so I just kept the beat. In college I played drums with a country band called the Big D Jamboree. They hired me when they came to town and we played in a raucus club that got violent from time to time. I also played with the Green River Jazz band which was a pretty good Dixieland group. For a while I actually played honky tonk piano in a bar that actually had sawdust on the floor. That got raucus too from time to time. Five foot two, eyes of blue and all that stuff. Then I went into the Army and that stopped my music dead in its tracks.
Drums are rhythm without melody so they don't make music by themselves. They just contribute to the music made by others. I guess that is the reason for the under-appreciation. I sold my drums after mustering out of the Army when I got my first full time job outside of military. I haven't played drums since. Tell your DH that my drum set was champaign sparkle Gretsch with Avedis Zildjian cymbals. He will know what that means. My DH was a drummer. I've got a thing for drummers. It's often hard to see the cute guy behind the drum kit which I think is why most (females, anyway) people are focused on the guitar players and lead vocalists. Bass players are often not given their deserved accolades either, even when they pull off quite impressive bass licks. I always liked back in the day when every member of the band had a minute or so to do a solo, then it became more obvious when the drummer and/or bass player were super talented. And I was always extremely impressed by drummers who could sing and play at the same time! It's hard enough playing guitar and singing at the same time but drums? Whoa! Look at Phil Collins, prime example of an extraordinary vocalist who was a drummer and could do both at the same time very well.Drums are rhythm without melody so they don't make music by themselves. Haha, thanks for remembering. I expect to post up a little Christmas contribution next month - I usually work out a new Christmas song every year and post it, but I’d gotten away from it the last couple of years.
