hiya

sensible and sane.
all too often people think everything and anything on the internet is "true"
for most medical conditions "of concern" one is best advised to consult with (one or more) actual medical specialists....

I got my various diagnosis at the end of last january
Carbs are basically sugars (when processed after eating), so I only needed to minimise added sugars and concentrate on carbs. I initially cut carbs to 100 grams a day, and later increased those to 130, for the last 4 months they've been 150 grams a day and my bloods came back ok, so 150ish is obviously ok for me now. The future, well I guess I can play chicken with the carbs - increase a bit more, and see how the next blood test is.
I'm just eating a reduced amount of protein (within the guidelines) rather than substituting, a bit annoying but meh, health matters. Fats is easy of course, limit saturated, job done.

I haven't been well since I had Covid in march 2021 but am actually a whole lot better than I was! Ever since then I've had an ectopic heartbeat, low energy & low stamina, so what I do on any given day depends on how I feel, and if I feel I need a rest day.
The dietary changes were easy to put in place as I've had no real appetite in the past 4 years. But I did lose a load of weight (I needed to). I noticed my resting heart rate was dropping and told my doc it seemed due to the rapid weight loss. He agreed, and I altered my diet again to get more food / calories.I'm still working on stabilising my weight - the dietician does not want me to lose more. It's been a challenging year.

Strange but true Covid side affect for me ...
After I got it I was completely unable to drink alcohol
As soon as it hit my stomach I got raging hiccups!
Occasional testing found that i was starting to tolerate it a little, and that effect seems to have gone now :woot:

When covid first appeared I said to my husband everyones focussing on the deaths but they’ll be a lot of long term damage that hampers people for a very long time, I hope they provide the help that will be needed. But they haven’t really have they.

Sounds like you’ve done a good job helping yourself though.
Low energy and stamina is a miserable thing, particularly if you still have the desire to do things but not the energy to carry it out.
The hiccups is a new one on me!
Did you lose your sense of taste?

Agreed, there will be a lot of people impacted long term in many different ways (the original variant had so many different effects on different people).
Gotta be honest, If I'd not pushed and pushed all the way I'd not even have the various diagnosis I managed to get last year. And this dietician appointment I requested is the first actual day to day support received, not that 1 day and another in 3 months is really day to day lol.

The hiccups was a new one on the doc too, they were quite bemused! I think it was just one of those random effects, and I'm glad it 'only' lasted a year or three rather than forever. A quiet drink is a) impossible and b) not enjoyable when faced with a hiccup storm.
My sense of taste and smell are fine. A friend's sense of smell was affected tho

Yeah my husband and I both lost our sense of smell for several months, and taste of course was affected. We had covid 2x (that we know of for certain)

Cold fizzy drinks give me hiccups and I like a G&T so when I go out I request no ice but they often put it in automatically.

I always think, it’ll be alright this time and then start hiccuping. It’s kinda funny because people associate hiccups with being drunk so I look pie eyed when in reality I will have had 2-3 sips 😂

I had it once, appeared to be getting better in an average timescale (as existed for the original variant), then went downhill. Didn't end up in hospital, but had some damage to the small airways of the lungs.
After that I tried stay away from joe public - did not want to catch it again when I was still affected by the first infection 🙊
