How is the corona virus affecting you?

Here, the issue has been the utter inconsistency in the rules that have been laid out. It's hard to follow when the national health advisor says "Do A, B, and C, except in the case of 1, then do elephant," then the state health advisor says, "Don't do A, but maybe do B and 1, but sometimes Y," and the governor says, "It's now officially declared, you must do turnip, code red, and eleventeen, except on second Sundays, then you can do whatever you want. Oh, and do everything the state and national health advisors said. We're all in this together!"

Honestly, I can't get too upset with anyone any longer who shows up without a mask, or with a mask over their mouth but not their nose, or whether a particular thing is a requirement or merely a suggestion because the guidance has been all over the place, especially of late, with the phases of reopening.

Pretty much the same here to be honest :o_o:

I have never bought the line "We're all in this together" that our government (and doubtless others around the globe) have spouted. We're not. Poor people, the elderly, the homeless and those at the "lower" end of the social scale are disproportionately affected. When I hear government ministers trotting out nonsense about how successful the response has been, I really don't know whether to laugh or cry. Possibly both. Mostly, I just feel acute embarrassment.

I think the cap was $99,000. They got less in between $75,000 and $99,000 and nothing after $100,000.

A friend of mine who owns a small hair and nails salon applied for one of those small business loans and didn't get it, while some national restaurant chains that were not small at all, did. You are right, messed up indeed.

so yesterday I had a grocery pickup at Kroger. For the second time, the person who came out to go over the substitutions list with me had her mask down below her nose. So she's breathing her germs (and potential viruses) into my space. Not okay. I called the manager today and told him it's a matter of life and death for me and I would appreciate it if the people who approach me for whatever reason have their masks properly on their faces. If it happens again I'm sticking with Walmart, who, for all their issues, make sure their employees have tight fitting masks properly applied. Or at least the ones I have seen did. I will be bothering walmart and Kroger about it every time it happens.

I will never let someone else pick out my groceries for me. I just can't wrap my mind around that.

I'm not crazy about it but it beats death.

Listening to members tales in the USA I think I'm very lucky. I've shopped on-line supermarket deliveries for years (literally that - since the late 90's) and I have few complaints. I use a high end provider (Ocado) and more ordinary ones - Morrisons, Tescos etc. Its fantastic not to have to spend time traipsing around to buy basic supplies such as potatoes, flour, eggs, butter, toilet roll etc. The best eggs I ever had are from Ocado and they aren't available in stores. I can also get specialist produce such as Nduja, corn-fed poussin, pigeon - all of which are impossible to find where I live. Plus - they deliver all the alcohol! :D

That's the way it is at my local Kroger - everyone has a mask, but more often than not, it's down around their necks.

I hadn't been in Kroger for two weeks until yesterday, and I saw one of the workers I especially like, so I waved to her and asked how she was doing.

She trotted over, mask on up to her nose, and as soon as she got to me, she pulled her mask off to speak, then pulled it back up to her nose, and every time she'd say something, off with the mask! It was like an absurdist comedy sketch.

I will never let someone else pick out my groceries for me. I just can't wrap my mind around that.
Pantry stuff, I'm ok with (although I'm picky about that as well, I don't want damaged packaging), but produce and meat...no thanks.

I was concerned about that when I did my Instacart trial, and my fears were confirmed when I saw the state of the produce I got. Simply horrendous, and in a couple of cases, unusable.

Its fantastic not to have to spend time traipsing around to buy basic supplies such as potatoes, flour, eggs, butter, toilet roll etc.
For me, it's the opposite; I'm a "get to go grocery shopping" person versus a "have to go grocery shopping" person.

Like I documented earlier, I tried Instacart for two weeks, and after largely unsatisfactory results, made my way back to Kroger my own self.

Even with the mask, and the distancing, and the feeling of being rushed, I was so g***amn happy to be back in a grocery store again! I was waving to all the workers, saying things like, "Hey, Karen, don't usually see you working Produce, looking good!," and, "Jen-Jen, that's a lot of cereal you're stocking!"

They were playing disco music over the PA, I was butt-dancing up and down the aisles, it almost felt normal. 🕺🏻

I don't typically buy a lot at a time. Pre covid I would stop on my way home and get whatever we were low on plus ingredients for my next cooking adventure 2-3 times a week. I buy a lot of produce because I like to eat fresh and healthy. So I now have a lot of stuff in my pantry but have no idea what to cook because I haven't been in the produce department to get ideas.
For my way of cooking and eating it's really not ideal.
Not complaining though. I'll muddle through.

We're the same that way, and that's what's been the hardest adjustment through all this. Pre-End Days, I'd go to a grocery store every other day, sometimes two or three days in a row. It never felt like a chore, because I enjoy being in a grocery store.

Mainly, it was so I could buy produce that I wanted to use that day or the next, because if I buy produce a few days in advance, something will happen to upset my menu plan, and I'll go for that pepper that I wanted to stuff, a week late, and it'll be soft or wrinkled and I'll have to throw it out.

Now, I find I'm probably eating slightly less produce than before, because I hate buying something that I think has a chance of getting tossed when plans change.

Texas is opening up at a pretty quick pace, and we are seeing a new uptick in cases. Here in Frisco, we had 7 new cases reported today. We had gotten down to just a few per week.

Churches are open for services, and of course, my parents (88 and 86) had to go. My dad said most people did not have masks on, and there was no social distancing.

NH is opening up as well as some restaurants in Boston. But you have to eat outside!!

I like grocery shopping, too, most of the time. Plus, if I make a list, I don't stick to it.

I would also love to live someplace where I could walk to a neighborhood store to pick up today's dinner. When I am in NYC for a few days or longer, I like to stay in a hotel near a store called Fairway Market in Brooklyn, part of a local NY/NJ chain. They have so much beyond your basic groceries. You can even buy things like dry-aged beef that they age right in the store. I get tired of restaurants when I travel. I really, I would love to live near a store like that, and choose what to make/eat daily.

That's how I want my retirement to be, I want to be able to walk to a grocery store, a nice restaurant, a diner, and a neighborhood bar. Give me that, I'm happy.

No masks here, all back to normal pretty much. No distancing at the pub. Traffic busy as, wife's out with the girls for lunch, I'm making a list of food for the weekend. Saturday here so I'm betting as well, lol.

Wednesday (June 10), Texas had a new record high for Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations. People stopping the wearing of masks is considered a possible cause. Well, duh.

It really pi$$e$ me off that I wear a mask to protect others, and they don't seem to care what happens to me -- or anyone else.
