By the way, if you put your OWN label on a jar or container - you can buy dissolvable labels you never have to scrape off. In the last few years I was at work, we were using those for our labeling - as even Sharpie marks on glass instead of attached labels don't come off quite that readily (though alcohol will help dissolve those). It actually ended up being both time and material effective to use the dissolvable labels.
They look exactly like paper, and they pull off a roll and adhere exactly like paper with adhesive backing ... but a good dose of water and they dissolve. The material is a sugar of some sort. I was able to source them on Amazon when I started setting up my kitchen here. You can write on them just as if on paper, too. Most of the dry goods I transfer to storage containers now are labeled with them.
