I couldn't work in a kitchen without under-cabinet lighting....otherwise you're always working in your own shadow. Our's gets usually gets turned on as soon as its dark and stays on until we go to bed (its all LED so its not too wasteful).
I've set all our kitchen lighting up so its is voice controlled - its really convenient when your hands are covered in something and you realise you need more light A single triple-gang smart switch controls the under-cabinet lights, the kitchen overhead spotlights and the pendant lights in the dining room - you can ask Alexa to turn them all on or just one of them. Or you can use the light switch the old fashioned way with your finger if you want
I've even got it set up so that if we come back to the house after dark we can walk in the front door, tell Alexa we're home and she'll turn on the hall lamp and the under-counter lights in the kitchen....very useful if your hands are full of shopping bags!
