Mutton, Hogget and Lamb

I love lamb, it's just crazy expensive here. More expensive than beef steak because very few people eat it. It's consider too cute to eat, generally and considered only a gourmet thing. When I get a chance though, I buy some lovely lamb. It tastes fantastic.

Its not cheap here but I think probably cheaper than in the Netherlands. I generally buy neck fillet for curries and stews. Its still quite expensive but I can make 300g serve 2. Its about £15.50 per kilo.

A kilo here is about 26 to 30 euro's. Not sure how that compares to a pound, but it's a lot. And mutton is just generally unavailable.

£15.50 a kilo translates as 17.19 euros (or $20.39) so neck fillet, at least, is cheaper in the UK than Holland. Supermarket lamb chops are even cheaper than neck fillet at around £11.50 a kilo (12 .75 euros). Leg or shoulder is cheaper still at around £9 per kilo.

I bought a whole shoulder of lamb for $37 I got them to cut up into chops. I had enoug for a BBQ and frozen for two lamb casseroles. $11 kg, I havnt seen it so cheap in 10 years. I'm going back on Saturday.
Btw when I was in Harrods in 98 lamb was cheaper than I could buy at home.
Lamb normally retails around $25 kg but things are changing every day. Exports cancelled and covid.

We eat a lot of lamb.

That shoulder is real cheap, the shoulder is the best and sweetest. We have a place here that specialises in it., have a look at pedros house of lamb shoulder.

I'm getting more on Saturday. I buy whole shoulder and bone it out and roll and string it up. I put bread stuffing in it with rosemary onions sage etc.

That is not expensive, are those wholesale prices or retail? Either way, still cheaper than in the UK.

We can get a Spit roast whole lamb here for £80/100. A uncooked whole lamb £60/80. Both include the head.
