Also i would like to point that old timey frozen meals were not meant to be nuked but baked in the oven. That makes a big difference in food texture.

The one I 'cooked' above was in a plastic tray but could be either oven or microwave cooked. I cooked it in the oven. A lot of the fresh ready meals in UK supermarkets can be cooked in a conventional oven.

A few examples of the delights which can be found in the chilled ready meal aisle in the UK all of which can be cooked in the microwave or the oven - there are lots of vegetarian and some vegan dishes too:

I love to recreate the old nasty TV dinners into something fun and upscale and serve it in those industrial compartmentalized trays. My favorite one to do is Salisbury Steak with a Burgundy mushroom gravy, boursin mashed potatoes, and sauteed baby rainbow carrots. It's always a big hit. Oh yeah, a fresh brownie too.
