Which reminds me, a ploughman's lunch without pickled onions wouldn't be right.
I remember those. If I recollect correctly, I even tried to cook one. It was probably a disaster.

Fireflies has what they call Onion Strings. Those are good also!!
Quick pickled red onions which turn very pink.
Mexican version is red onions thinly sliced, salt and fresh lime juice.
Its Vidalia season!
