Plans for today (2025)

My calendar had "Organize Food Shelves" on it.

I got the rice done...

This is going to take a bit. I forgot how far away the floor is... 🫤

Going car-shopping…just about my most-hated activity ever.
I’ve been procuring new electric vehicles for work…the number of bloody hoops I’ve had to jump through is driving me batty. I had to seek out an exemption from the procurement policy, which apparently requires the signature of Jesus himself.

Finally received the purchase order for one batch, still waiting on the second one while the dealer calls me every day asking “is the PO ready yet?”…

Well, initial car-shopping was a bit of a bust. We have one of those large automalls, with a dozen or so dealers in one place, and the website said their hours today were 12PM-5PM, but…they just decided to close on Sundays and didn’t update the website.

However, not all was lost, MrsT has all but eliminated Subarus (based on “that godawful butt-ugly dash”), Kias (based on looking at the interior and saying “No…just… no…”), Mazdas (based on “…those seats are too narrow, the back window is too narrow, and the center console is too high”), and Hondas - one had been left open, so we actually sat in it (based on “…cheap, cheap, cheap - everything feels so cheap!”), which leaves Volkswagen as the surprise lead vehicle…without having actually driven anything yet.

Driving the many variety of cars that I do for my job I can say the Volkswagons are pretty tight machines. They're a bit pricey on the upkeep but they do perform well. If it takes a spill due to lack of maintenance it *will* be expensive. When I got my truck I downloaded the mfg. maintenance schedule and it's followed as the odometer indicates; plus my own weekly inspection. By the time the dash indicator comes on you've already spent something; mfg. plan...

I've got a Volkswagen. 2008. It's been a very good car, even though it's had its problems in the past 24 months - mostly due to Venezuela's crappy roads and appalling gasoline. I'd recommend volkswagen any day.

My plans went along as expected until the final moments when the thing I’ve been wanting to try for a long time didn’t work and the hours n hours I’d spent on it were wasted.

It was Peasants Beef Wellington where the beef fillet is replaced with a blended well flavoured/spiced mince that you beat until protein extraction occurs (ie it gets sticky).
The duxelle was tasty but the meat was tough. I knew this very early on when frying little bits of taste test patties but I really hoped the longer cook would soften it. It didn’t.

What it did do was release an enormous amount of fluid whilst turning into a rubber bat and steaming the puff pastry that turned into a fairly wet mess. Disappointing.

I just don’t really expect such kitchen disasters, yes things go wrong but 4 hours producing something not good is quite depressing!

So bleach then?
Umm, use at your own risk. Bleach is a solution of sodium hypochlorite which is an alkaline, opposite of acid, chemical. It can weaken grout since, over time, the ions released *will* react with something.

I used to be FE at a Lifetime Athletic facility and the only thing we used to clean grout was hydrogen peroxide. It worked, was safe, add was cheaper both financially and health wise.

Yes thats my point, toilet cleaner usually contains a significant amount of bleach (or descaler).
