Preparing for Christmas

I usually say “no Christmas stuff until Dec 1!” , but I must admit I caved earlier this week and bought eggnog.

Because eggnog is delicious.

I came close today. I saw my favorite brand of spiked egg nog in a store, and stood there and thought about it. But, since I can only have one or two glasses a year, I will save that purchase until I am with friends or family, so I don't feel "obligated" to finish it -- can't waste food, eh?

There's a classic "egg nog" over here called "Ponche Crema" It's been years since I had one, but it's very good.

Please humour me...what exactly is eggnog?

It is a dairy and egg based, thick sweet beverage served around Christmas. It is often mixed with booze, such as rum, bourbon, brandy, or some combination of them. It is served cold, and traditionally sprinkled with a little nutmeg.

It's wonderful.

Just think “Sweet boozy spiced crepe/pancake batter you can drink,” and that’ll just about cover it.

Hmm...not sure about this to be honest.

CD and TR just about covered it. It’s a thick, sweetened dairy-based beverage that is usually served around the holidays.

It’s absolutely delicious. I often will put a splash of it in my morning coffee instead of cream. For an adult beverage, add a slug or two of rum (we referred to this cocktail as a “bodger” growing up, although this may be unique to my weird family).

I wish it was sold year-round. I love the stuff.

Oh, if you get a chance to try the real thing, it will be life-changing. Done right, it is about 20% ABV, so you may get drunk if you drink too much, which is a definite possibility.

Honestly, I thought eggnog was a European thing that made it's way to America. I was really surprised that you didn't know what it was.

MrsT was out on today, leaving me on my own, and she even gave me permission to put the lights on the tree.

We’ve been together long enough for me to know that, “If you’re looking for something to do while I’m gone (!), why don’t you put the lights on tree?” translates to, “Make a laughable attempt at stringing the lights, which I’ll relentlessly belittle when I get home, pull them all down, and completely redo, negating your more than two hours of incompetent effort!” 🫤
