RIP Queen Elizabeth II

However - I totally share your thoughts on TV. TV stations here tend to whinge on and on and on and on about anything that´s news, until they completely grind the topic into the dust.

I think that's true of any first world country, maybe seconds too.

We'll raise a glass to her tonight and I'll remember the time I met her in person at a garden party at Buckingham Palace 29 years ago. I was only allowed 2 guests, so my Grannie (a year younger than the Queen) and my mother came with me. My then finance, now husband, agreed to give his place to my Grannie who was an avid Royals fan. She lived every minute of that day. We met 3 or 4 of the Royal family that day.

We never met her, but MrsT did get a rare, semi-private look at her in 2018.

We were on the last day of a trip to London, had checked into our hotel by the airport (to make it easier to drop the car and fly away), and MrsT decided to spend the last day in town (meaning Windsor).

She knew The Queen was in residence, so she wanted to tour the castle (again), but I begged off and amused myself around town for a few hours.

She was beyond excited when we finally met back up. MrsT was going through the rooms, and with her muscular issues, she had to stop every so often and rest.

All the public rooms in Windsor have a minder in there, and she saw MrsT was in a little discomfort, and offered her a seat by the window.

Looking out, she told my wife, “If you stay a bit, you might catch a glimpse…they’ve just brought her car round.”

Sure enough, there was a very plain dark blue or black car sitting below the window, in the courtyard, and several minutes after that, out she came, a little slowly, got in, and drove herself off.

The minder told MrsT The Queen was quite a keen driver, and when she needed to get from one end of the place to the other, she had them get her the car, and then she’d take herself away.

Made my wife’s whole trip!

"Phillip came to me today,
and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that "I know"

I then turned and looked behind me,
and seen I was asleep.
All my Family were around me,
and I could hear them weep.

I gently touched each shoulder,
with Phillip by my side.
Then I turned away and walked,
with My Angel guide.

Phillip held my hand,
as he lead the way,
to a world where King's and Queens,
are Monarch's every day.

I was given a crown to wear
or a Halo known by some.
The difference is up here,
they are worn by everyone.

I felt a sense of peace,
my reign had seen its end.
70 years I had served my Country,
as the peoples friend.

Thank you for the years,
for all your time and love.
Now I am one of two again,
in our Palace up above."

This poem I believe was written by a lady called Joanne Boyle

I am not a royalist either, but the fact that she's been queen for longer than I've been alive - just barely so far -- feels impressive to me. As far as I know, she's behaved decently and with decorum in office, unlike a lot of politicos who aren't royal and shall remain nameless. I will admit I'm glad I'm not over in the UK having to listen to tribute after tribute after tribute for several weeks on end. But a few tributes today and tomorrow, and on the day of her funeral - fine by me.

Burning question, though.... since Prince Harry has stepped away from his royal role, why is he still in the line of succession? Ditch the dude.

I remember back in the late 70's or early 80's my mother stating she really should step down in favor of Charles. Basically, boiling her viewpoint down to the fact he was a man, and he was just forced into being a spare cog. (As if it would be all right for HER to be the "spare cog".) Ever since then, I've never wanted Charles to become king!!!

QEII had a good run with her life.

My ex-wife and I did a tour of Holyrood Palace. I don't normally like these kinds of tours, but the wife really wanted to do it. It was actually rather interesting. I learned a bit of history, which made it worthwhile.
