I'm not a big tea guy, but I'm not opposed to it. I've been sick all week and got some tea and this tea has the most divine scent I've ever smelled. It's incredible, it's just tea, but I never thought it could smell this good.

I'm on hot ribena (blackcurrant cordial). For some reason I only ever like it when I'm ill and I only like it with hot water, not cold. Go figure

I think that may have been something our generation was given when unwell because we never had squash in the house but if we were ill (and I mean really ill) we’d be given hot ribena. Not sure what the reasoning behind it was but it was welcome and did get drunk so perhaps that was all there was to it?!

I drink (steeped loose-leaf) hibiscus and rose hip tea with honey when I'm sick. Mom would give me it when I had a fever. It seemed to help better than aspirin. Lots of vitamins to help. Feel better.

I'm not understanding the squash correlation?

My mother always said it was for the vitamin C, but boiling water would denature the Vit C wouldn't it?

Still at least I don't drink it as a milkshake which my brother did!

Orange squash as I think you may have already worked out, it's a type of flavoured, coloured sugar in liquid form filled with preservatives and E numbers, fed to kids to make them hyperactive...

I luuuuvvvvv Havarti cheese.

We went off havarti cheese very quickly as kids when travelling through Denmark on holiday with our parents. They purchased a whole wheel of it and let's just say we didn't have a fridge in the cart, only as cool box that needed to be fed freezer blocks on a regular basis. By about the 4th day it had been renamed as sweaty socks cheese... we've never recovered from them insisting it was kept in the car for almost 2 weeks.

I dunno 🤷‍♀️
Had to goggle it, it is defo heat sensitive but looks like it’s destroyed between 85-95c, however the length of the cooking time is according to google very relevant 🤷‍♀️

Ah well that’s not quite 100% true.
Rocks and Teisseire are just concentrated juice and sugar.
Not good or you but definitely better than fizzy drinks 😂

I wasn't thinking of the fizzy stuff....
I know, it’s just a lot of folk who don’t have squash as an option drink tins of fizzy instead. Comparatively it’s not that bad. Especially if it’s Teisseire which is what my mum would buy (along with ribena) if we were ill.

My mother didn't do the shopping. Our step father typically did and we'd get whatever was on special offer or the cheapest... that's E numbers, colouring and sugar.

My brother still lives off ironbru (which is the fizzy stuff)

Given how food aware you are what do you think about that approach now?

My dad and by extension my mum were very food aware, high fibre, lots of veg, low in salt and saturated fats (well all fat was a no really), skimmed milk, no sugar, no salt, no additives, packed lunches with no crisps, chocolate or biscuits and everything was over cooked.
Tbh it wasn’t great!
And now the tide is turning and those beliefs on diet are falling out of favour so you have to wonder, what was it for?!!

It wasn't great then. It's not great now.

Our mother's inability with food had affected all 4 of us in similar ways. None of us can hold a constant bodyweight for long. I've had to teach my sister about nutrition and such. My youngest brother learnt that as a chef but it is very meat and dairy industry dominated. My other brother is only really learning now, after his stroke.
