(MOD EDIT: moved from the what did you buy today thread)

Here is what I I did NOT buy... chicken. Super Bowl weekend is upon us, and chicken wings have been sold out for a week. People are buying up substitutes. A couple of weeks later, March Madness (NCAA Basketball Tournament) starts, so don't plan on buying wings until at least April in the US.

BTW, the National Chicken Council (yes, it exists) estimates that 1.42 BILLION chicken wings will be eaten on Super Bowl Sunday.

Just got back from Kroger, they’re ready:

That’s part of a freezer case, and there were two more, right down the center aisle.

Yeah, stores seem to have frozen wings, but not fresh. Those frozen wings were packed before the rush -- they could be months old.

Are things getting crazy in Cincinnati, yet?

I’m sure I’ll be back there in Saturday, I’ll check for fresh ones.

They did have plenty of the other parts - I got thighs and drumsticks on 2-for-1 special.

The truth is, being home instead of in the office, I’m kind of insulated from all that.

Being in the office got me out and about downtown, so I’d get exposure to that just by osmosis, but I’ve been downtown exactly once since late-2019.

I was in Downtown Pittsburgh when the Steelers won Super Bowl XLIII. I was staying at the Hyatt (?) and had a reserved barstool at a sports bar across the street, so I wasn't in the part of the city that got nuts after the game.

Cincy has never won a Super Bowl, so if they win, you don't want to be downtown Sunday night. Football fans after a full day of drinking get pretty crazy when their team wins a SB.

BTW, I am behind the Bengals for the win. It would be quite the Cinderella story.

FWIW I'll be watching the game as always.

Do you get the US commercials. Some Super Bowl commercials are better than the game. Bear in mind, advertising time on the Super Bowl this year is $7-million for 30 seconds.

Back on topic, SB Sunday is the biggest snack food event of the year. If you live in Merica, you better finish your shopping by Saturday. There will be empty shelves in certain aisles on Sunday, such as the chip/crisp aisle. I don't even want to think about going to Total Wine and Spirits (a booze superstore) on Saturday. You'll have to park 200 yards (two football fields) away, and wait in lines ten deep to check out.

We get the half time "show" last years was amazing. I've watched the draft horses on you tube.

I usually have enough booze for a week in my cupboard. 4 weeks if I raid my wifes stocks.

Stupid me, we don't follow any Sports and had no idea that the SB was this Sunday; I was foolish enough to have planned my weekly shopping expedition for Saturday :o_o:
NOPE!
I'll wait until the game starts on Sunday and then I know all of Cowboyville Arizona will be otherwise occupied

That’s always me, whether it’s sports, or a holiday, or a storm coming or whatever. I never know what day it is that way.

I once drove an hour to work on a federal holiday…then did the same thing again for the next one a month later. Both times, I was in the car thinking, “Wow, the traffic is really light today…nice!”
