I've never been to "Ocado".
It's solely an online retailer and agent mate. M&S will buy a 50% share of Ocado's retail business for £750m. The joint venture will be called Ocado and will deliver M&S grocery products from September 2020 at the latest, when Ocado's deal with Waitrose expires. Under the deal Ocado will also continue to supply its own-label products and big name branded goods.

Yep, they changed to M&S on the first of September

And its not good I agree. Too much emphasis on pre prepared meals, side dishes etc. Plus, despite having a delivery pass I was unable to get a Christmas slot. I'm shopping more at Morrisons these days but they don't carry much of the specialist produce I like. Off topic...

Morrison's were/are big in West Yorkshire; not surprising as their main operations were/are out of Idle, Bradford. It used to be thought of as an up-market ASDA (which started up in Leeds) but I couldn't see why.

Could these posts be split off into a separate thread about supermarkets?

I reckon they are better than Asda. I've found their meat to be excellent. In fact I've recently bought bavette steak from Ocado and Morrisons - not only is Morrisons much cheaper, its much more tender.

The meat content in supermarket chilled lasagna in rising order least to most. Asda, Morrison Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose, M&S. Partner training in Waitrose is second to none. My wife previously worked for M&S in a non food managerial position.

Maybe things have deteriorated at M&S. I did a quick check. For the basic lasagne here are the results:

Highest meat content first:
Morrisons (29%),
Asda & Waitrose (25%)
Tescos (23%)
Sainsburies (20%)
M&S (16%)

There are also more expensive lasagnes in most supermarkets - I would need to do another comparison of those. The meat content of those varies but none I found had more than 30%

I was given those figures based on their premium ranges some years ago by a friend in Northern Foods. This Waitrose Lasagna has 25% beef. Even with staff discounts or buying it for pennies in the staff shop we never tried it.
"Bubbling like a creme brulee, this looks beautiful. Its creamy bechamel topping is light and smooth (although it could do with more nutmeg), and those dark, delicious “toasted cheese” patches take the edge off its sweetness. Unusually, this contains not just mince but rugged pieces of diced beef. Equally unusually, that beef packs a prominently peppery flavour. The pasta is thin with just the right amount of bite, but beyond the sauce’s peppery, tomato flavours, it lacks herby points of interest. 6/10 "

I'd agree with you about Morrisons meat....their meat counters usually have a good selection and are staffed by knowledgeable people. They're also one of the few places around here where you can usually get big pieces of shin of beef.

I'm torn about Ocado....I love their speciality ingredients, but for general shopping I much preferred the Waitrose ranges to M&S. Aldi are going to build new supermarket just down the road from us so once that opens I'll probably start doing most of my shopping there and less at Ocado. I have a very cheap smart pass (only £1.99 per month) so I can afford to keep that going even if I don't shop there that often.

I already have an Aldi at the end of my road and used to shop there too before the virus. Now I don't go into shops at all. Everything (food or otherwise) is ordered on-line and delivered.

How come your pass is so cheap? I'm sure I pay more for mine. :(

I originally signed up via a moneysavingexpert deal at £2.99 per month, after a couple of years that was increased to £3.99 and about 6 months later we decided we were shopping more in the shops than online so I cancelled. Then I a month or so later I received an email from them offering me the pass for £1.99....so I accepted. Of course, as everyone and their dog want supermarket deliveries these days I'm not sure that tactic would work right now!
