The CookingBites Recipe Challenge: Coffee

As @detroitdad wrote, it's used as a rub on steaks, but I've actually seen coffee crusted steaks. I'm a purist when it comes to steak though so have never, and probably will never try it unless it's a bite off someone else's.

Red eye gravy also comes to mind.

I used instant espresso powder to make the buttercream frosting for the buche-de-noel I made recently.

Tiramisu is one of our favs.

It is used in ground form with other ingredients as a dry rub for steak. There is also red eye gravy using brewed. I have never used it in any dish.

I really love this choice of an ingredient! As a few have already mentioned, it can have sweet or savory applications. I'm not sure what inspired me to do this a while back, but I had fun making (and eating) these Chocolate-Coffee Tequila Cupcakes:

Nuts, I only drink coffee occasionally, never used it in cooking. Never liked it in cakes or desserts. I'll be interested to see others take on coffee. Tiramisu ? Maybe I'll find a new dessert??

Hi @rascal , having available until the end of the month, I hope you can find something that will inspire you for this challenge.

I'm thinking coffee would make a big difference to vegan dishes like lentil shepherds pie. I used to add a little marmite but it has gluten in so don't use it now (annoying as it is produced locally), so I might try coffee instead.

There is no reason this shouldn't work - coffee is sometimes used in Mexican mole to add depth of flavour.
