Both! It got warm overnight, I'm hurting and someone else had to be up at 4am. Normally it's not a problem but I was in too much pain so gave up. I'll sleep later after my hospital appointment today.

The deadline has now passed and I'm busy judging. There are 16 entries from 4 Cookingbites members. I am only including recipes which are tagged with cookingbites recipe challenge. So click on the link to see them. In the absence of any specific competition criteria (!) it is down to my personal taste and judgement of how well I think a recipe might work. Where practically possible I've cooked and tried out recipes submitted if I'm not familiar with them in some way. This has led to some interesting experiences see Potassium Blast revisited.! I've tried to leave some comments on all the dishes entered so entrants will know why perhaps I didn't shortlist a particular dish.

- Recipe Vegan Heartache Cake (Chocolate Eggplant Torte). All my comments have been made! See Vegan Heartache Cake (revisited).
- Recipe Chinese Eggplant with Garlic Sauce. Quite similar to my very favourite aubergine dish which nobody has posted despite the clues!
- Recipe Baba ganoush One of my favourite recipes and a great classic aubergine dish.
- Recipe Aubergine Pickle (round 2) Aubergine pickle is a favourite of mine, particularly if it contains chilli!
- Recipe Vegetable Moussaka I cook a very similar version of this dish, quite a lot. It really works well.
- Recipe Melt-In-the- Mouth Burnt Augergine and Spinach Curry This is right up my street, with chilli and smokey aubergine mingling with my favourite green vegetable!
- Recipe Aubergine sliders I love the simplicity of this, just two main ingredients, plus olive oil and herbs. It reminiscent of the famous aubergine dish Aubergine Parmigiana which I often make.
I considered it. Oh boy, did I consider it! It was one of the 16.
