Sesame Seed and Ginger Squares.

When I saw the title I was scratching my head. The Thais, as far as I know, don't use sesame seeds in pad khrapow, then I discovered that you used sesame oil - good choice - far superior to palm oil. Sesame oil is available here but not widely. Used more by the Chinese I believe.

Okay, thanks everyone for participating. All of your recipes look really good. I've made a list of all the recipes and pretty much have decided on my short list, just want to think on it a bit more to be sure. Will be back later with a winner.

And the winner is @SatNavSaysStraightOn for her https://www.cookingbites.com/threads/sesame-seed-snaps.12838/ . Besides the recipe looking really good, sesame seeds are front and center in the ingredients.

Runner ups were:

@morning glory for her https://www.cookingbites.com/thread...gg-with-sumac-and-sesame-dressed-salad.12847/

@The Late Night Gourmet for his https://www.cookingbites.com/thread...hoestring-fries-and-tahini-lemon-sauce.12870/

@Kake Lover for her https://www.cookingbites.com/threads/sesame-seed-and-ginger-squares.12873/

Also, I liked the recipe for homemade tahini and baba ganoush from @SatNavSaysStraightOn and I wish @Herbie had posted a recipe for the homemade hummus and falafel. I really liked the look of the sesame crusted ahi tuna from @detroitdad as well.

Again, thanks to everyone who participated and I can't wait for the next challenge because I will get to participate! It's been hard to not stick my nose in, I had to quit looking at this thread. :D

Great challenge!
And congratulations to @SatNavSaysStraightOn

Thank you @medtran49. Sesame seeds were an excellent choice.

Now this one has taken a lot of consideration but I've finally chosen Bread as the next ingredient.

To make things easier, however, I'll clarify.
  • Bread must be used as an ingredient within your recipe. Take my recent Manchester Pudding as an example.
  • Or you've made a homemade (flavoured) bread/bread dough and then done something with it such as calzone or foccia.
What doesn't count is
  • Purchased breadcrumbs, if you want 3oz of breadcrumbs then you need to make them from 3 slices of slightly stale bread.
  • Panko (purchased).
  • Or if your end product is a loaf of bread/sourdough/bread rolls or pizza base (by itself or similar) or something that can be very easily purchased such as garlic bread or cheesy bread rolls. I'm not looking for plain pizza bases, plain bread rolls or plain loaves of bread/sourdough as the final outcome. Caramelised onion and fresh thyme sourdough made into a pizza toast would be fine.
Hopefully that both makes sense and opens up the possibilities a touch, and will allow for gluten free members to participate because everyone has to either use purchased bread as an ingredient or actually make the bread in a bread based product such as pizza/calzone/foccia.

If you're unsure if something counts, just ask. I appreciate that it could be unclear as to what does and doesn't count.

I need to set a slightly shorter date for this one for personal reasons so I'll call it at midday Tuesday 19th June (BST).

A very interesting choice! Can you clarify whether in things such as sandwiches in their various forms or such things such as tortillas, then the bread and tortilla must be made from scratch? I'm assuming so but I'm having trouble with fine definitions here with the term 'bread based products'- for example

If I make a summer pudding using bought bread its OK, but if I make a sandwich using bought bread its not OK? What if I use bought bread in an elaborate deep fried sandwich. Is that OK?

Or if I make a tortilla or burrito recipe I have to make my own flatbread, but if I tear up a bought flatbread in a salad then its OK (and there are interesting recipes across the world based on that concept)?

Sorry to be a pain but there is potential confusion here.
