he arrived home safely. thankfully.

tomorrow we'll venture along the ridge and go to the looking point (actually the secondary jump off point for the paragliders) and have a look at the extent of the flooding from above. I don't know that the back route to the Christmas tree farm will be open (carrying on along that road.) but the plan was to get the tree this weekend. we certainly won't be able to get to it via tarmac, that's for sure. the town hubby turned left at at the other highway will definitely be badly flooded and there will be no way through via tarmac roads so it will have to be the ridge route. ironically it's a 80km round trip plus, just to go a direct line up and over the mountain we live on. they are about 4km away on the other side of the same mountain! no way through that way though even my 4x4 with off road tyres would bog down. looks like it's going to be a fun weekend...

ironically 2 years ago we were starting 7 weeks of being housebound totally because of the bush fires and the smoke. this time round we're struggling with flooding.

Yeah - but the elegant ones on the right have turned or carved tops. They ain't no ordinary toothpick.
True...that one on the left is in its more natural state, where someone has taken a knife to the tip of that other one.

I guess it all comes down to preferences, and...I'll show myself out now. :laugh;

I haven't been around here much lately because I've been busy with the project of buying my first house. It's something I've been saving for since I started working 10 years ago, and something I've actively trying to do for the last 5 years but it's only now that I can afford a house in the place I want to live. This was a stressful process - lost my 1st choice because of issues with the real estate agency, lost my 2nd choice because the house had been sold a week or two before I made my offer (that house had been on the market for over a year!), settled on my 3rd choice. Then I had issues with the evaluation of the house...but finally things are settling into place, and I should be signing the final deed in mid January, when I will finally get the keys to the castle!

The castle is really a 2 bedroom apartment in the outskirts of the city, the place is exactly where I want to live, the house could be bigger but it's big enough for me and the boyfriend and a child if we ever want to take those steps.

My first house, that I'm buying all alone at the age of 30, and despite all the stress and all the setbacks that took me so much peace of mind, I'm enjoying this process of taking care of all the process on my own, I love being an adult and creating my own safety and building the life I want for myself. I am really happy of how far I've come, from starting my career as a minimum wage worker in a call center to being able to afford my own house when I'm 30...I just hope I'll be able to pay my mortgage until the end without major issues (I'll be in debt until I'm 70 and Euribor is at an historical low, interest rates can only go up from here). But so far so good and now I can't wait to move in 🤩

Congratulations, very exciting, and I hope you can post some pics!

Great news and well done!! What an accomplishment 😍😍

Looks like we're in for a moderately rough night, weather-wise. Damaging high winds, loads of rain, rapidly warming temps, which also means a risk of tornadoes.

Tornadoes, in friggin' December. The worst of it is supposed to be 2AM-4AM, so that stinks. At about that time, temps are expected to shoot up to around 70F/20C. In Winter. That's nuts.

Somehow, I went down a rabbit hole here at CB having to do with the tag 'Hawaiian Cuisine'.
I think that I will make a project for myself of seriously introducing y'all to the foods of my heritage.

I was not only born, raised and spent the most part of my life in Hawaii,
but I am also of Hawaiian Ancestry.
I attended a school for 13 years that was solely for children of Hawaiian decent.
I was taught the language, culture, religious aspects, you name it!
And yes, I can dance the HULA! 😊

sorry, that was me...

I often add tags where people haven't added them (for whatever reason) or correct the auto detect (e.g. sweet potato will be sweet & potato, not sweet potato)... anyone can add tags to anything btw (max 10 tags per thread or media picture) and you'd stated Hawaiian cuisine in your info about the recipe so I added it :whistling: . the tags help the searches on the site as well as search engines to find recipes etc. if a tag you want doesn't exist (and is in English or commonly used in that form in cooking) just use the report button and ask for it. we'll create something suitable and add it (along with any regional spelling variations or totally different names etc).

to find a tag just type the obvious word... eg. black/brown cardamon/cardamon can be found under black, brown, cardamon or cardamom. you don't have to type the first word but main concept... if that makes sense... it's the problem with brown cardamon also being black cardamom... and you'll not know if black or brown is the first word in the tags.
