Okay.. I am in the ICU.. all my vague problems turned out to be my fourth incidence of pulmonary embolisms and this is my second saddle embolism.. guinness book of records anyone?

Second time I walked around with a saddle embolism for 2 months before being diagnosed!

I fainted today after shopping, and again after shouting for my husband from the floor..

I guess the good news is that I am probably not rheumatic. The swelling and pain in my limbs was due to oxygen loss

That’s awful! How long are you expected to be there, and what’s ahead for you as far as treatment goes?

I hope you’re feeling better as soon as possible.

My prognosis is relatively good, have been stable at 130 bpm and 100% saturation as long as I do nothing. Goes up to 145 for the slightest movement though. I should be able to go off the icu in 24 hrs, but then I have to stay for testing because they now suspect I have a chronic clotting disorder. After all this is the 4th time , and I always have saddle embolisms or multiple pulmonary embolisms at the same time.. even on these meds .

So new meds and a through investigation are needed

I'm also glad that you have a possible diagnosis to prevent it happening again though.

Sadly I've been there. I had to discharge myself from a rehab hospital who had decided I was a lazy, fat overweight asthmatic needing a CPAP to sleep (I don't need a CPAP and don't have sleep apnea but they had it in their heads that I did) etc....

I collapsed at home after bending over to pick up something off the ground. My asthma specialist, at a loss just ordered a whole load of tests... no one thought it was serious until during the tests the radiologist started asking questions during the tests... 3 PEs affecting both lungs, all the usual places that I get chest infections etc.

I ended up injecting massive amounts of clexane twice readily for 6 months. I hated that basically all they can do is make you blood thinner to get around the clot and wait for your body to deal with it but they were talking about putting me on a filter at one point to catch the clots in the body.... I wasn't that keen on the idea of another lengthy stay in hospital. I found ICU boring as anything but also once I was a little more with it quite interesting watching the patterns.

My thoughts are with you. Please stay in touch and keep us up-to-date on your progress.

Well, dang it all!
Went down to the house this afternoon at our agreed time to finish off with the baseboard installers.
They said that they'll be back on Monday to finish the job, that means 2 more nights in the hotel, dang it, it ain't cheap!
The place is a total disaster!
I thought we'd be able to start putting everything back in some kind of order, but I guess not yet.
DANG IT ALL!!!

Oh dear how awful! You definitely know how it feels  the fainting thing, ugh I hope that never happens again. Fingers crossed for you too!
I'm barely sleeping at all, just had a mere 2 hrs. It's always like that in hospital for me. It's 02.00 here now, hopefully getting a bit more rest. Otherwise doing very good for a saddle PE, stable bpm between 120 and 110 and blood pressure normal .

Dozing is really all you can hope for in ICU...
Just keep trying. I found drawing, well colouring in to be the easiest, least taxing entertainment whilst in ICU. One of the nurses went down and bought me a random coloring in book and 12 pencil crayons. I just gave her my card to tap. Hubby wasn't able to visit me because he also had pneumonia and was very ill at home. I did also continue knitting a lap blanket whilst I was in there once hubby arranged for his boss to being clothes and bits in for me. Some of the staff would close the next colour to go in and I'd just knit until I feel asleep...

I did arrive in style though, air ambulance and unconscious... don't really remember much of my first few days that 12 day stay. But that was double pneumonia. Had I have been home that night, I wouldn't have survived. It was my GP that shipped me off from a doctors appointment to hospital via ambulance, but the last thing I remember was leaving the surgery on the stretcher. I lost consciousness before they got me into the ambulance, and have no recollection whatsoever of an air ambulance flight!

The other "visits" have all been operation related, 1 or 2 nights after major surgery, along with some high dependency ward (HDU) stays, also after operations. Always glad to get out, but because you've come from ICU or HDU, you end up in a room next to the nurses station on the ward, so only marginally less noisy.

Are they talking about getting you on to a ward anytime soon?

SatNavSaysStraightOn  sorry I am too tired to respond to all that now, just saying thanks for your support! I will get back to you later.

As for how I am doing: officially a medical miracle, because I have a saddle embolism and multiple PEs according to the docs this morning but my recovery is so good that I am already on the lowest oxygen support and my bpm has been steady at 110 or lower today, normal blood pressure and 100% saturation. So tomorrow I can go to regular care, provided they have a spot because they are overflowing with patients apparently. But good news overal !

I wish you better. I was in Resus last week with atrial fibrillation at 4 am in the morning. Luckily my son answered the phone and was able to come to the house to look after my partner (who has dementia) when I was rushed in. I was surprised. Who has their phone on at 4 am in the morning? I should say that this heart thing has happened to me many times. They pump me with drugs or do electro cardio version and, in the past, kept me in overnight for observation. Now they send me home as soon as my heart rate is normal due to bed shortages, I suppose.

I hope you get out of ICU soon.
