I remember the first week after I arrived in the UK, I was sitting at work and a bunch of Brits were making fun of another Brit who was (apparently) from Cornwall (or thereabouts).Accents here have particular associations.
They were mocking his accent in an exaggerated way, and saying rurally-themed things, like “Oi’ve got uh loverly tra’tor, ‘ave-unt Oi?” - it let me down a little, because it was exactly like watching a group from the northern part of the US making fun of southerners. I thought, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”
